While this technology is still not ready for the general public, it is expected to be ready by 2010. USB 3.0 is called “Super Speed USB” by some because of its speed improvements over both USB 2.0 and 1.1. Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.0 is the latest specification of the USB standard, introduced in August 2008 by a partnership of developers led by Intel. The much speedier protocol allows for data transfer speeds up to 5.0 gigabits per second (Gbits/s), or 625 Megabytes per second (MB/s), about ten times faster than the USB 2.0 protocol.

With greater demands for transferring larger files at faster speeds, USB 3.0 promises to be a welcome improvement from 2.0 technologies. For the first time, USB might not be a bottleneck for data transfer. Internal hard drives could be playing catch-up until “SATA 6Gb/s” (the next generation SATA with transfer rates of 6 gigabits per second) and solid-state drives become widespread. In the meantime, SATA drives with maximum data transfer rates of 300 MB/s (3 GB/s) will only be half as fast as USB 3.0, assuming it matures to its full theoretical potential. According to Symwave, a semi-conductor business involved in USB 3.0 cable design and production, the technology might max out shy of its rated throughout, falling closer to 250-300 MB/s.

PID motor control with an Arduino from Josh Kopel
A good example of transforming DC motors into servo and implementing PID control. It uses an Arduino and a Motor Shield to control the DC motor. This link has provided most of the code requirements and working description. [Read complete article]

This blog is an attempt to bring the Indian robotics and embedded systems developer community closer with the world and together. All its constituents, right from the engineers, professionals, researchers, hobbyists, students, professors.

As an student, and now as a professional, I feel that despite Indian engineering colleges offering best courses across the globe, there exist vast gaps in our understanding of concepts and practical implementation for designing’s of embedded systems, electromechanical projects. Gaps which are often responsible for inefficiencies in designing innovative and wowing products. In particular, finding people who knows right from “concept to product” is extremely difficult. For example, best circuit designers might not be good at programming the systems, best programmers may not be good testers and so on. Even a person knowing all about embedded systems may not be good at desinging mechanisms. For this reason — AutotronicsIndia’s blog is a platform to discuss, and share your ideas and knowledge with others. This blog is an attempt to provide all of uss an opportunity to bring ideas to implementation.

The objective of “AutotronicsIndia Blog” is to be an open community for sharing your knowledge, ideas projects and products globally with leading professionals in this field. If you feel that you have knowledge, ideas or projects that you want to share, feel free to write in and request an account. In any case, do feel free to comment.
